Ship Reviews

Just looking at the reviews I find it hard to believe the 1-stars. We had a wonderful experience on our 18 day sailing to Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Falklands. The expedition staff was excellent, the food was very good, and the staff attentive. The most important part was the Expedition Staff and I couldn't say enough nice things about them. Yes, it's an older ship and thus has a few issues like a too small mud room, but that's easy to live with. The did run out of some fresh food items toward the end of the cruise, but there was no resupply option. The charter flight from/to Santiago was excellent. Yes, it was economy seating but with lots of leg room (and I'm tall) - much better the dealing with South American Airlines. Cooking a steak on at hot rock on the pool deck in Antarctica was a magical experience. We enjoyed the cruise so much, we have booked an Iceland/Greenland expedition on the same ship.

We had the most amazing experience on this expedition cruise to Antarctica covering Falklands, South Georgia, Elephant Island, Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetlands. The ship albeit considered old was in good shape, the captain (Captain Sasha) and the hotel director Ozgur, were visible throughout the entire cruise, the staff absolutely lovely and well trained - also impeccably dressed. For 246 passengers there were 240 staff. From day one they knew our names and our preferences. The food was fabulous and given there were 42 nationalities on board not an easy task to satisfy all, but Chef Shiva managed it well. The wine selections was superb from some of the best wineries in the world with an onboard sommelier Naria. The best part was the most knowledgeable and fun yet determined Expedition Team and its manager Marieke Egan! We will definitely be cruising/joining them on expeditions again. Thank you team SilverWind!

This was a wonderful excursion trip to a pretty exciting location. Scientific staff were educational, fun and did a great job at helping us understand the importance of this beautiful location. Impressed with their desire to leave it as pristine was they found it. The excursions were varied, energizing and unique. Do Kayak if you know how it is an experience like no other. When not out on excursions we met so many wonderful people from all over the world. Though we all come from different places it was really interesting how much they wanted to discuss everyones locations, culture and such. We made life long friendships. The staff were professional and at our beck and call. It was incredible to me how they took their individual duties so seriously. Our butler and her assistant were friendly, hard working and were able to help us with any questions we may have had. It was nice to have an in-room bar and though we were in Antarctica, our balcony was very used -had blankets and such ready for us! The food was really some of the best we have had traveling this way. Even the buffet had unique and varied options for all cultures. The restaurants had spectacular service and beautifully plated dining. We ate twice at the pay to eat La Dam and admit we may not on our future SS cruise because the food was so good at all the other restaurants. But the food there was also spectacular. Hours spent in the lounge were fun with the memory games and music. Thank you for such a spectacular way to see such a beautiful location as Antarctica. There were no children on the cruise.
