We last sailed on the Allure in 2014. She was as beautiful as ever. I wondered if her size was now too big for us, but the ship was "just right". We got a lot of exercise each day-great for the waistline! We arrived a day before the cruise and stayed at the Embassy Suites in Ft. Lauderdale which is only a few miles from the port. Great shopping before the cruise at ROSS and Dollar Tree for last minute items. We had the express Set Sail pass (finish all your documents and health questions prior) and were on board in less than fifteen minutes. It felt great to be back! The Promenade was buzzing with excitement. We went up to the Windjammer for lunch, which was tasty. As you expect, with guests and their backpacks it is busy, but there is room. The staff works hard cleaning tables quickly. You can also go to the Solarium cafe or Central Park for a bite. Then you let it all soak in! You are on vacation!!! Our room was ready right at 2pm as promised! We had a 14th floor boardwalk balcony stateroom which faced the basketball court. We never heard any noises from that. The activity below near the carousel could get loud during the day, but it was from the excitement or movie playing at Aqua theatre. We loved that we could see daylight and the water at the same time. We had a slightly obstructed view cabin due to waterslides, but not an issue for us. The Zipliners went by us, and we could see the rock climbers. My biggest like was that we had sheer curtains that can be used for privacy when needed and the heavier curtains blocked out sunlight if needed. The cabin was wonderful!!! Clean and good size for two! The beds and bedding most comfortable, and linens brand new! I wish they'd follow the "Save the Waves" program, because I don't need a new towel every day. (I don't do that at home either). The shower head is high up and not adjustable, which would've been nice if adjustable. I love the safe and fridge in the room. As previous reviews mention, the food is delicious! We dined in Main Dining Room breakfast, lunch and dinner (My Time Dining), Solarium for breakfast and lunch, Central Park for Breakfast and snacks, Sorrentos for pizza, Mexican for lunch, Cafe Promenade for late night snacks and Windjammer for Breakfast and Lunch - dependent on our schedule. Central Park Breakfast was delicious - egg muffins, fruit and oatmeal in a quiet and serene location. The Crab cakes first night in MDR was absolutely delish! The staff was amazing in all areas of the ship from Room Steward Alfredo to MDR Head Waiter-Ricardo, Waiter- Jayson and Asst Waiter- Marcus. Loved them all!! I misplaced my husband's iPhone on Pool Deck and Housekeeper Marian took the time and special effort to help me locate it "Whew". We smiled every time we saw each other the remainder of the cruise. What I LOVE about cruising is that everyone is on vacation. No matter the problems we face at home or within, we can take a pause and simply enjoy. RELAX, and that is what we did onboard anyway. We LOVED Mama Mia!!! and my husband is not a fan of the movie, but he could not get over the talent of the entertainers. Singing and dancing all the way through, in perfect timing. I loved the Ice Show and the humor and joy exuded by first male skater; he was funny and talented on ice as they all were. My husband loved the comedian/magic show. I must admit, I fell asleep due to busy day in port-but felt the energy anyway. We could see some of the Aqua show from our balcony and also watched from back of the theatre. Those divers are AMAZIING!!! We also enjoyed Blue planet show, the singing and dancing once again. I enjoy walking the track on deck 5, getting close to the sounds of the waves, and also lounging in the shade near the pool. I enjoyed a 40-minute swim in one of the main pools, before the "Soakers" arrived. I love the smoke free casino and the smoke free section in the main casino. The machines were good to me. As Diamond status we were entitled to 4 free drinks each day. I ordered smoothies and healthy fruit juices at Vitality Cafe next to Sorrento's, individually made each time while my husband enjoyed his share of virgin bloody Mary's and Pina Colada's all over the ship. At night I switched to Pellegrino's, wherever we were. Another Perk of Diamond status is entry to Crown Lounge on Deck 15 Aft Next to Mason Jar. We went in a couple of times, for coffee in the morning or snack before dinner. The first night before 5 was very nice. Wonderful assortment of appetizers! Only Diamond Plus and above were allowed in lounge between 5 and 8pm due to the large number of cruisers onboard with that status. As for cruisers - all ages, from babies to seniors, not many 5-16 year olds as school was still in session. Ports - St. Kitts-we took the essential St Kitts tour. My first time there and we driven to the Caribelle Batik & botanical garden. LOVELY both the Batik fabrics and gardens. A true haven!!! Excellent quality souvenirs can be found here! Next was up to Brimstone Hill Fortress a World Heritage Site. Wow, simply breathtaking! My only complaint was the vehicle taking us around - the hill up and down was very extreme, and I felt our safety was in question. I wish the cruise line would own the excursion companies and ensure the same safety and rules applied onboard. They do mention in ticketing that the countries you visit and transportation you use may be different from what you are used to. In my case, this is true. St Martiin - We have visited this island many times before, even rented a car and drove around for the day. It's very beautiful. This time, with much anticipation we booked a catamaran sail and snorkel from the ship. After getting up early and getting to the meeting place, the trip was cancelled after waiting about 20 minutes on shore. "Mechanical difficulties" was cited. First time in over 30 years this has happened to us while cruising. Well, we were probably better off if that was the case. We took the water taxi into town, loved the ride. Walked back to another taxi stop and then ENJOYED the rest of the day on the ship. Relaxing! who knew... We made a complaint to Shore excursion desk, but they were not very interested, lady said her manager may give us a 20% discount on a future excursion. St. Thomas - This time we signed up for Coral World and Coki Beach. Once again the transportation was in question, with our driver running a red light!!! After that, all calmed down. Coral World was ok to visit, nothing spectacular (I may be spoiled?) I did love the "Touch Tank" and close up of starfish. Coki Beach is right next door, I loved, once again. Rented a snorkel mask for $10 and swam in right off the beach, seeing many of the same fish we saw at Coral world. A highlight for me. We didn't stay long as had to be back onboard by 2pm. Nassau - it's been over ten years since I've been here. Boy has the port changed!! All for the good! Lovely shops and eateries. We ventured out for a bit, bought lots of souvenirs. It was hot out and we had to eat lunch and meet for afternoon RCL Sail and snorkel excursion. It was windy out, but they elected not to cancel the trip. The ride was beautiful, but water way too rough for me to get up and down the catamaran ladder safely to snorkel, so I opted to watch from the deck. Wise choice! My husband gave up snorkeling after 8 minutes or so in the water and thankfully he made it back up on deck ok. Others who did remain in the water said they enjoyed the variety of fish, but agreed the water was rough. the sail back was very nice past the Atlantis and then to an area where turtles hang out. They dropped us off at the other end of the port so you get another change to shop or eat if desired. Again, very lovely area indeed. I look forward to returning to ALL of these ports again! Already looking for next booking. Our likes far exceed our dislikes! One dislike was during first port stop there was no RCL organization to handle the droves of passengers trying to get off the ship. It was scary, almost dangerous to have so many people jammed up on deck 3. They can improve on this for sure, having staff on hand to direct traffic and keep an aisle open. The Security staff getting us on and off the ship at the gangway did a good job as usual. Remember, this is a big ship! Pack your patience, anticipation and have a wonderful trip!! My tips; reserve your shows before you board, and dining times if possible/applicable. Thanks for listening. Your reviews and tips have also helped me decide what ship to take, then plan and enjoy my trip.
We first cruised the Allure when it was less than a year old. And with the Amplification it looks up to date. Our balcony cabin was in good shape, clean and appeared to be only slightly improved. Dinning in the MDR was good with the Windjammer actually being a slightly better option. Entertainment & activities were first rate in almost every category. Service overall was good for RCCL as this was spring break, so lots of kids making it hard for the staff to keep up. Ports of call we did on our own and we were impressed how much the Roatan port had improved. Returning to Houston from the Port of Galveston it would be best to have transportation already booked or expect a long-wait and costly Uber. Note: As a Diamond member and normally cruising on Celebrity, we felt totally ignored as all posted activities were for Pinnacle. Even the Crown Room had exclusivity 5-8 pm every afternoon for only that level. Looks like Celebrity is likely from now on.
