My first cruise I booked a great deal on the Allure of the Seas. I choose the grand suire because it was only slightly more expensive than the junior suite yet afforded us the suite life benefits. I am glad I took the plunge because the suite lounge, coastal kitchen, VIP embankment, disembarkment and large cabin size made it worth the cost. I would have liked to be able to book restaurant reservations and shows prior to boarding more easily. It would also make sense to extend the suite drink benefits throughout the ship and Coco Cay. I sampled the MDR which was great but both buffets were disappointing. My cabin steward was attentive and accomadatind. The concierge were amazing although there were long lines on day one which would have been eliminated with ease of communication prior to boarding. The best service came from our coastal kitchen server. I would sail Allure again.
This was our first time on Royal Caribbean, we have sailed on carnival before and so that was what we knew. The check in process was great being all digital vs paper on carnival. The ship for it’s age is beautiful but you can tell it needs an update. No water slides or dry slides like the other oasis ships, but still plenty to keep you busy. We stayed in room with a family of 5 and it was tight, but we were able to make it work, bed was comfy and my kids enjoyed their bunks. We still brought our fan as it took a while to cool the room whenever you opened the balcony door. The food at windjammer for the buffet was pretty decent for breakfast and dinner with a decent selection of cuisines for all tastes, we did samba grill which had excellent service, but the steaks were a bit bland(don’t expect fogo de chao). Izumi teppenyaki was outstanding and one of the best dinners we’ve had at any hibachi style restaurant, definitely worth it. Coco cay was a great destination where as family we had fun without paying for any upsells for water parks or private cabanas. Beautiful island! My favorite part of the trip was coco cay. Overall a great ship and for a 3 day cruise we had a blast. My only zonk is it doesn’t have the pizazz that carnival has with it parties and cruise directors making it fun. I will say the food on carnival in their eateries minus the main dining is better. We will be back, but we might do utopia this time around and see the new amenities!
