Our sixth time on this ship. We love sailing from Bayonne in the summer. A no fly cruise for us- just drive up to the pier- no hotel to deal with and within less then 1 1/2 hours we are at the pier. We had a crown loft suite- what a fabulous room. Two stories and two bathrooms which is wonderful and plenty of storage space. We were on the 17th floor near the suite restaurant and lounge. Our waiter Alex was the best! Our cabin attendants, Anthony and Ed were also great. Food very good. Chops this trip was a disappointment- noisy shouting passengers, crying babies harried service and food fare. 150 Central park much better. We also went to Giovannies which had poor quality food. Never ate at buffets. Didn't see CATs as we have been on previous cruises on the ship and CATs not our favorite show- the Aqua show had some problems and it was cancelled then another day shortened. We enjoyed the comedy show- The ice show we had seen previously and skipped it this cruise. Two many kids on this sailing- we need to avoid August. People allowing their babies to scream in special restaurants. When we traveled with our kids, they ate either room service or in the buffet. If they misbehaved, we would remove them from the restaurant. I don't understand why people think it is their vacation and nobody else matters so if the babies disturb others trying to enjoy dinner who cares. The ship was very crowded. We also had a long line to drive into the terminal From the entrance to the drive to the terminal, park and drop off luggage was probably the worst part of the trip. One issue with the Coastal kitchen is that the menu seems to repeat itself- breakfast and lunch the same daily, and dinner not always interesting. We also sail on Celebrity, and the food is so much better. The shops had the usual merchandise- I purchased a roll of tums, cost $7.95! Insane. We will continue to sail on Royal, but will sail off season to avoid the mobs of kids. We really enjoy the Oasis class ships and have booked the Allure out of Miami in January. We booked the beach club in Nassau- at least 6 other ships were in port. It was awful- the crowds were insane and we never made it to the beach club. A very long walk with thousands of passengers in the heat trying to get the ferry and pier , so we turned around and went back on the ship. What a negative experience! I do not recommend getting off the ship at that port! We never had a problem on other cruises in Nassau. We used to enjoy that port. Disembarkation was much easier as we left the terminal early and didn't have difficulty leaving the pier .
We cruised as a group of 21 close friends and family. Everyone had a great time but due to the limited number of ports we were all ready to go home at the end of day 6. It was all of our 1st experience with an Oasis Class ship, and the ship did not disappoint. The entertainment was top notch. Cats being the only exception. Bars and lounges were a lot of fun. Main Dining Room did the best it could with the mediocre ingredients provided to them. For us the gem was Central Park. I loved to people watch from our balcony. Especially at night when the lights started turning on. Cococay is always amazing and the main reason we choose Royal. Nassau isn't extremely underrated port. Especially now with Royal Beach Club. The new port is lovely and secure. My only complaint would be what you gain in security you loose in authenticity.
My husband and I try to take at least one cruise each year by ourselves, while our other cruises usually include family or groups of friends. This sailing was just the two of us. The Good Embarkation and debarkation were absolutely seamless. From the time we parked the car, we were onboard in about 10 minutes. Getting off the ship was just as quick and easy. Our room steward, Enrico, was phenomenal. He anticipated our needs, kept our cabin and bathroom spotless, and the towel animals each day were such a fun touch. We prefer the earliest dinner seating so we have plenty of time to catch the shows, play games, and enjoy the rest of the evening. Our dining room team—Iwayan, Kadek, and Joseph—provided excellent service. They were attentive, friendly, and made sure we always had everything we needed. The Not-So-Good On the second day, we noticed an unpleasant odor in our cabin that smelled like urine. We mentioned it to our steward, who immediately brought in a carpet-cleaning machine. The smell seemed to disappear at first but eventually returned. The carpet was then deep-cleaned to the point that it remained damp for quite a while, and it appeared the sofa was cleaned as well. While we appreciated the crew's efforts to address the issue, the odor never seemed to be completely resolved. The Windjammer buffet was disappointing for us. The American offerings were essentially the same each time we visited—burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, and fries. There was a good salad bar and a variety of Asian dishes that changed daily, but the overall selection felt limited. On a ship this size, we expected multiple buffet stations (forward, midship, and aft) and late-night buffet service. Instead, the buffet was relatively small and closed at 9:00 p.m. While Sorrento's Pizza and Café Promenade offered food later into the evening, it just wasn't the same variety we're accustomed to on other cruises. The main dining room food was also underwhelming, although that seems to be fairly common across several cruise lines these days. It almost feels like they're encouraging guests to purchase specialty dining. Most dishes could have used more seasoning, and several meats were overcooked. The beef bourguignon and New York strip were both quite tough, and the chicken breast was dry as well. Overall, we still had a wonderful vacation, thanks largely to the outstanding crew and the opportunity to relax together. While there were some disappointments, the excellent service was definitely the highlight of the cruise.
