Ship Reviews

I went on a cruise to the Caribbean with my wife and 2 children (15 & 12) to celebrate my 60th birthday. This was our first experience on a cruise and was amazing. Everything was smooth and relaxed, starting by the embarkation and finishing by the disembarkation. All staff was great, very friendly and helpful specially our waiters Conrado and Soumen. Food was excellent quality and diversity. Pizza at Sorrento delicious, mexican in the Loco fresh, buffet at Windjammer amazing, dinners at dining room delicious and the entertainment brilliant. Don't miss Aqua 80. Plenty of things to do on your own, with your wife and the whole family. The children loved the freedom to wonder around the ship, the basketball court and the big slides. Definitely will go on a cruise again, maybe a Mediterranean one. I highly recommend Royal Caribbean International Oasis of the Seas 6 NIGHT WESTERN CARIBBEAN & PERFECT DAY ON COCO CAY Cheers!

Before you read further. Let's be honest: any cruise is a good cruise! And being on the first ship of the Oasis class makes this one pretty cool! BUT because it is the first makes it also the oldest. And that shows... The first thing we noticed ones stepping onboard is the paint scheme inside. Brown. Darkwood brown. Not my cup of tea, but I have been on 3 MSC ships and 2 modern RC ships. So I kinda am spoiled with "glamouress" ships haha. The rooms are the most dissapointing part to be honest. They are REALLY in need of some proper renovation, but don't expect that. RC doesn't do that. You have 4 US outlets (all at the same place on the desk. Not near the bed) and one EU outlet. The shower wasn't clean and had hairs on/in it. And the curtain (well I think someone didn't have toilet paper before?) Was stained with weird yellow and brown spots on the back. And the front looks like they needed to be get rid off 7 years ago. Yes that bad. The balcony is huge! That is really nice. Good furniture on the balcony too. We were on deck 14 almost aft. The beds are nice slept good. The shower is also good. We went to our roomsteward to talk about the hairs in the shower. He removed a few, but later we found still a few hairs. So we went to the front desk. And they took good care of it. Now the ship in general. Like I said it is old, but you can have a great time on it! It is a big ship, the central atrium is cool. And has great spots to chill and eat. The shows are great! Although the musical on Oasis is Cats. I don't think it was the best option for the crowd onboard a Royal Caribbean ship. Because a lot of people left the theatre during the show. And I mean... a lot of people. I enjoyed it, but wouldn't go for a second time. What I do recommend is the water show on the aft of the ship! Goosebumps really. The ice skating show was also a-ma-zing! You have to see it. Old decor and a old room in general, but that is fun and takes you back to a decade ago haha. Near the ice skating rink was the night club. And this is a real perk on Oasis! Like... wow. A real proper club. Not a disco. That was cool. And I have not seen something like this on a different ship. The food onboard was good. The pizza is okay. The buffet is fine. Maybe a little busy, but that is on every cruise in general. The MDR on the other hand was the best that I have experienced overall. The food was good and the staff was so friendly! And I think our staff really enjoyed their work. (I think we can all agree that you can sometimes see when someone is forcing themselves to enjoy something they do not.) But here they kinda naturally liked it haha. It was nice! The pools I didn't use that much. Only in the Solarium. Let's talk about the pools first. They were really crowded and filled with not my kind of people. Also I am from the Netherlands with not that much of a strong sun above me. So I decided to not really get into the heat. So the Solarium now! It is well taken care of. And you can see that it was modernised a little. The bistro there is fancy. And different from the rest of the ship. It is included in the price of your cruise. And I recommend to go there instead of the normal buffet. But do note that the menu not really changes during the cruise. A little topic about sports: the running track is okay. Although it smells in ine corner really terrible because the fumes from a snackbar are dropped there. So take that in mind. The gym is nice. And connects to the running track. Near the gym there is the spa. And next to it there is a smoothie bar. Where you can select what you want in your smoothie. Included in the standard drinks package. If you have one. Overall I had a nice time! On a nice ship. If you get a good deal on Oasis go for it! But don't think that the recent overhaul did anything big. It didn't do a spectacular job. But just know it isn't a modern ship and she is kinda out of place if you are used to modern mega ships like I do.
