Ship Reviews

This is my fifth cruise on voyager and sixth on Regent. I am Gold Level. I have cruised on at least six other cruise lines. Regent is good but not great, which it used to be. It is still high end with very good food, great crew and comfortable ships. However, I chose Regent this trip to have zero issues, zero limits and complete relaxation. Sadly, that has not been the case. It’s not that Regent is not a good cruise line; it is shrinkflation. They hold themselves out as “all inclusive.” Don’t be misled. While I can understand the limits of continuing to include business class air in all fares and am not complaining about that change, there are niggling little nips at your wallet while on board, charges that never existed before. Example: To move your money, refundable on board credit, to the casino has cost me $3.00 per transaction. That is a grab. Example: “Unlimited WiFi” is a purposely misleading statement. You can use as much WiFi as you like but the internet is so throttled that it is useless for any but mail (except any with embedded video). To get usable internet for one device you have to pay $19.95 per day. This is not “all inclusive.” The very fine print makes clear that streaming is not possible with the “all inclusive “ but I admit I did not read that since I booked through an agent. The on board “Executive Concierge” was adamant that he could do nothing. Sadly this is not all because little nicks at the luxury are gone: leather luggage tags and leather zipper folders for all came with your boarding materials. They are now only for platinum members. It is no longer the 6star cruise line. It’s four star at a 5 star price. If this sounds like an entitled person whining, I guess that’s because it probably is. But, when I pay for something, I expect to get it, not something less. I loved Regent before and saved to afford to repeat the experience. Sad. What I recommend is that 1. loyal cruises be grandfathered and receive the same perks and services that they got when they had cruised before. It’s these mi or details that leave a sour taste ; 2. On board staff be given discretionary authority t rectify such complaints on board and instantly without having to contact shore offices. Such delay only irritates the experienced guest even more. (The home office refused to upgrade WiFi to its prior level hiding behind the fine print.). We all have choices. Regent has made the choice to lose its prime customers for a few dollars. I know the company needs to recoup its losses but I am sad to see the Regent experience no longer available. This seems to be happening everywhere. I would have happily paid more fare to not have had these types of petty issues. It is the intentional misrepresentation that bothers me. I’m moving on.

We cruise often, most often with NCL. We wanted an Iceland cruise with multiple port visits and Regent met the requirement, so we signed up. We're usually NCL Haven cruisers and figured our Regent experience would be a fair (or at least fair enough) comparison. At twice the cost of an NCL Haven suite we were anticipating Regent's "luxury" would be remarkable. What we liked: - Our suite was beautiful if a tad cramped, but was very well appointed. - Pre-cruise we requested our favorite wine, gin and tonic, etc., for the suite and the butler stocked them prior to our boarding. Nice. (This is hit and miss - usually miss - on NCL). - Absolutely OUTSTANDING crew! Service was generally superb across all venues throughout the ship. - Appreciated the clothes pressing and laundry service (no "free" clothes pressing on NCL though we receive one free laundry service based on Latitudes Club status). - Butler service (daily snacks, stocking 'fridge, breakfast and dinner room service, etc.) was great. (Very similar to our NCL Haven experiences). - The food was OUTSTANDING and the service in every venue was VERY responsive. The main dining room's head sommelier was wonderful. - My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Wine & Food pairing event (extra charge, but she loved it). - Shore excursions are included in the fare and were quite enjoyable. Loved the Belfast tour and pub visit with singing and Irish coffee. Also loved the Jameson Distillery tour. - No crowding, no long lines, no being jostled by other passengers bellying up to the bar, nobody sneezing into the salads at the buffet, etc. Generally a quiet, relaxed, friendly atmosphere throughout the ship. - Smaller ship = very easy to get around, no long lines waiting for an elevator. - Because there weren't many activities to choose from in the late afternoons and evenings we spent considerable time just socializing with our favorite bartender and waiter (though this was admittedly very enjoyable as these gentlemen were a class-act and we looked forward to hearing about their experiences, hometowns, and families. For us, this was a remarkable bonus!) What we didn't: - The boarding experience was a bit of a clown show. Seemed disorganized, lack of focus by personnel, etc. Reminded me of my many experiences moving through military processing lines. Given Regent's advertising we expected a better initial experience. - A very temperamental espresso/coffee maker. Single coffee shots only. Missed the NCL coffeemaker multiple options. (I know, not a big deal, but an irritant nonetheless). - Regent's primary senior age customers means there are very few events scheduled throughout the day to keep you entertained/busy. We've never had so many mid-afternoon naps on a cruise as we did on this one. - The primary activity in the evenings was dinner and the 9:00 pm entertainment in the theater (we thought the entertainers were very talented and their performances were very nice indeed. - Given the limited entertainment and activities schedule across the day we spent considerable time just socializing with our favorite bartender and waiter once the lounge opened (though this admittedly was very enjoyable as these gentlemen were a class-act and we looked forward to hearing about their experiences, hometowns, and families throughout the cruise. For us, this was a exceptional bonus!) - Unlike NCL lounges Regent's opened late in the afternoon, usually around 5:00 pm. After returning from shore excursions we just napped, read, drank coffee at the coffee bar, walked around the ship, etc., before enjoying our pre-dinner libation. A bit boring. Overall: We enjoyed the cruise very much indeed and are grateful for the opportunity to scratch Iceland from our bucket list. We will also fondly remember the wonderful crew and especially our favorite bartender and waiter, and will be keeping in touch. That said, in holistically comparing this cruise experience against the cost vs benefit equation we will more than likely stick with the NCL Haven, at half the cost, in future cruises.

We had a fantastic time on this cruise from start to finish. The staff, across the whole ship, were fantastic, always courteous, hardworking and genuinely seemed to care about making our trip a good one. The food was very good on the whole. As a group of 10, we did notice the restaurants sometimes struggled with a table our size, so service could be a bit slow at times. It's a first world problem though, and we certainly didn't starve. To their credit, the staff worked hard to rectify this wherever they could and were always apologetic and attentive about it, it never felt like they weren't trying. Our cabin was excellent and kept spotlessly clean throughout, and that standard ran right through the ship, everywhere we went felt well maintained and immaculate. A special mention for the pool bar staff, who were brilliant. The weather was fabulous for most of the cruise, so the pool area was busy every day, but they kept up all the same, mixing great cocktails, regularly bringing round iced water, and keeping the whole area clean and tidy despite how much footfall it was getting. They worked incredibly hard and it really added to the holiday. All in all, a brilliant cruise, and the odd hiccup with group dining didn't take the shine off it at all. We'd happily sail with them again.

I wanted to share how much we enjoyed our cruise experience aboard the Seven Seas Voyager. The service and food were outstanding throughout the trip, and every aspect of the voyage exceeded our expectations. The shore excursions were enjoyable, and the descriptions provided beforehand were accurate and well-aligned with the experiences we had. We also loved the new Whisper audio devices on the walking tours, which made it much easier to hear and follow along. We were very impressed with the entertainment. It added greatly to our overall enjoyment of the cruise. In particular, J. Alexander delivered an outstanding performance, and the magician's show was truly memorable. We were especially impressed by the cruise staff, who were consistently friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They took the time to learn and address us by name, which made the experience feel personal and special. Their dedication and professionalism did not go unnoticed.
