LoginSeven Seas Explorer® is stunning, with art by Pablo Picasso on the walls and a vivid cobalt-blue glass installation on the ceiling in the elegant restaurant Compass Rose. See for yourself how every space is designed to impress.
I love the older ships, and Explorer didn't disappoint, she has an understated elegance. The food was exceptional as you would expect on a Regent cruise, fine dining every night. Our favourite restaurant was the Pan Pacific followed by Chartreuse. Being in Alaska the bars and restaurants had the curtains open in the evenings so you could make the most of the scenery as you sailed, you couldn't wish for a better view whilst having a drink or eating your meal. In Compass Rose, we often sat in King's section, he was friendly and always had time to talk to you. He would make you feel special by taking your arm and escorting you out of the restaurant at the end of your meal. Our Suite had everything we wanted, except a kettle, but that was soon rectified. Our Cabin Steward, Acky seemed to know what we wanted before we did, we didn't have to ask for anything and our cabin was kept spotless. A big thankyou to the Laundry Team, what a treat coming back to your cabin and finding all your clean laundry. The duo in the Voyager Bar were very good but we were drawn to the Meridian Bar as they had Star Martinis. We would walk in, smile at Jennaboy behind the bar and he knew exactly what we wanted and kept them topped up! All the crew we came into contact with always had a smile, were friendly and went out of their way to make your cruise enjoyable, there are too many to mention. We joined in the daily games held in the Atrium hosted by the Entertainment Team, which were great fun. We met so many interesting people, it's worth going along for a bit of fun and getting to know other guests. We went to Alaska about 20 years ago and this time were a little disappointed not to see as much wildlife as we did back then, ( I know wildlife is unpredictable) but it was more than made up for with the stunning scenery, the ice flows and snow capped mountains. The weather was a little chillier than we were expecting but we wrapped up warm and didn't get wet so we were fine. We were on the B2B Vancouver cruise and visited quite a few new ports which all had their own unique charm. The excursions were enjoyable and we were pleasantly surprised. Thankyou Regent for another memorable cruise, looking forward to Splendor in February
We arrived at the terminal in Vancouver where our luggage was transferred to the ship. We were given instructions on where to go to pass thru the ship's instructions to board the ship. As we boarded the ship we were offered a glass of champagne. We then went to our emergency point procedures. Then we went to lunch at La Verandah. We were then notified our room was available for occupancy. Joanne our room steward introduced herself to us and explained where things were. We were greeted with a bottle of French Champagne and a fruit platter. I went and organised Wi Fi for free!! We unpacked and then went to a Meet and Greet. We met Pedro and Coco, two of the Entertainment, they were very welcoming. We then went to eat again. After dinner we went to the Explorer Lounge and the live duo were very good. A couple were dancing and we found out later it was Dr Gary H Kramer, a renowned scientist and his wife Loonah. We were tired so retired early after seeing the preview of the show with Coco & Pedro in it. Had a pretty good sleep, the bed was excellent. It was great to daily receive Australia Today report, which kept us up to date. We went to breakfast and then a talk with Dr Kramer on Glaciers. Had dinner at Sette Mari, Italian. Saw a show with Trigg Watson, a magician very good. Then went to Karaoke at Explorer Lounge. We tried every restaurant and some more than others. Our Maitre 'ds were Peter in La Verandah and Compass Rose, Raymond in Prime 7 and Anzhela also in Prime 7. We were very impressed that the Maitre 'ds were in different locations on the ship. . Overall the food was very impressive and a good variety . The service was excellent. We went to the shows with Natalie Costa as the Cruise Director and the band was exceptional, the productions were original and enjoyable. Our disembarkation was smooth at Whittier and our bus was waiting to transfer us to Anchorage. We were never bored and just so appreciative with the overall social activities offered to us. The ship is beautiful in all aspects and as we have been on many other ships this one was beyond our expectations. Our Regent Cruise Consultant Daniel could not be faltered in organising our trip and we thank him.
Our cruise on SS Explorer from Whittier to Vancouver went very well for the most part. The weather in Alaska was not ideal, but it was pretty much what we were expecting for a June sailing. Getting to Whittier does have its challenges but that can be discussed in another forum. The cabin was nice and spacious and all had balconies (good for viewing of wildlife and glaciers). The ports were a bit remote but did offer plenty of excursions. We especially enjoyed the Hoonah area. The service was excellent on the ship. All of the crew are very friendly and accommodating. Our cabin was cleaned and refreshed twice daily by our stewardess and service included refreshment of drinks and laundry service. The food was good overall, especially in the specialty restaurants. We had a less than stellar experience at Compass Rose during our first dinner there and never went back. I have food intolerances which did present a challenge. I was provided menus for the next day to order ahead for lunch and dinner. However, it was difficult to know where my group wanted to dine. When I did try to order off the menu in the restaurant, the wait staff had no idea of food ingredients. One time I actually was served (and ate) a small portion of a food that I am intolerant to. There needs to be a better way to address those with food allergies and/or intolerances. In addition, no gluten free bread, crackers, or desserts are available other than naturally gluten-free foods such as ice cream. I was told that gluten-free pasta is available, but I was reluctant to order due to other intolerances and preferences. It would be helpful to have a list of ingredients for passengers with dietary restrictions. The entertainment was good overall. I did end up contracting influenza A at the end of the cruise, even though I practice strict hand washing and sanitizing of my cabin and anything else I touch. Disembarkation was pretty-well organized. In summary, the experience was a good one, although some things can be improved.
