Ship Reviews

This was mine and my wife's first cruise meaning we did not know exactly what to expect from one. However we ended up having a blast! The beginning of our experience began with the app after booking the cruise. I found out very quickly that there are some minor issues on that end but nothing drastic. My main issue was that, before arriving to board the ship, it is faster to get a medallion shipped to your home. However after ordering the medallions, there was no communication or shipment updates to let us know whether or not it would be arriving. Luckily ours did arrive, and we were able to get into our cruise terminal in Barcelona rather quickly compared to others. My next very minor issue was the app not telling me what cruise terminal to arrive in, which I remedied quickly by logging in on the website instead, just a little inconvenient but nothing to worry about. Now in Barcelona we would recommend getting to your cruise terminal fairly early as the traffic (which we luckily avoided) was backed up very bad, and finding taxis was hard (according to our fellow cruisers) as there were a handful of other cruise ships in the port at the same time. Once arrived to the terminal the process was fairly fast with groups of people being called to board separately, we were group 14 and were on the ship within 30 or 45 minutes of waiting. Once on the ship we walked into the main event portion of the ship located on deck 8 and had to check in on the app and watch a safety video before waiting for our luggage to be delivered to our room. The ship itself was very clean, and our balcony stateroom was very clean and comfortable to stay in. On the days we did come back from our excursions early, we headed to the adults only pool located on deck 17 forward to have some nice drinks and swim in a more calm area. The other pools are obviously very busy, but from the main pool area there were movies being played on a large movie screen to unwind and enjoy your snacks instead of swimming. Every night a pamphlet with what to expect for the next day would be dropped off at your stateroom for ease of figuring things out. The room service was excellent, the man who cleaned our room, whose name is Vinod, was a very friendly and kind man with who we had quite a few pleasant conversations with. Most of the restaurants were very good, but we did not find "The Butchers Block by Dario" to be as appealing as others unfortunately. The Eatery was free for all, and very convenient spot to get breakfast and fill our water before heading out for the day. There are some nice stores lower in the ship if shopping is what you're after. The arena normally has some events going on as well. The dessert options on board are also very good. When walking back toward the main area in midship, there are normally performances to watch while you get a drink delivered or sit down with some snacks. We had a bunch of fun during bingo but beware, that bingo sells out fast and gets crowded so I recommended showing up a bit early and sending a family member to get the tickets while you save the seat. By the way, there are only 2 washers and dryers per deck so be ready to wait to get that laundry done without people stealing machines! Everyone on board was nice though and all-in-all, we had a blast on this ship. Would recommend this cruise for those who want a pretty care free vacation, it is especially care free if you book excursions through princess, however they are pricey.

The Sun Princess is a beautiful ship! Can’t comment on MDR as we had Premier Package, but we loved the speciality dining as well as the American Diner for breakfast. The Catch by Rudi ( shout out to Bafana our server) was our favorite . Lido deck had a great selections for lunch. Staff was top notch & very welcoming. Entertainment in the Piazza & Cruise Director Cole were excellent , Arena shows average . ,Cabin steward Chris as well as Carmen & Darrin were stand outs. We did all excursions thru Princess. Some excellent, some so so none were terrible. We definitely recommend this ship! We had excellent weather which added to our experience. The Eatery was very crowded at breakfast. Loved the Medallion technology which made entry to rooms easy as well as getting on and off ship for excursions. Disembarking was a breeze including transport to airport.

The ship is lovely, but it is completely different to any previous princess ships, which seems to upsetting people, but not us! The crew are fantastic, the food is really good and the entertainment too notch. Yes, the ship layout is a bit weird but you soon get used to it. The cabins are modern and spacious. We were told by some crew that princess is moving forward, understandably this means change which hasn't always sat well with the princess faithfull! However, we loved the ship. The crew go out of their way to make sure you're having a good time. There are some areas that seem to cause people to complain, one being the buffet. I would say that the lack of seating in the buffet is an issue, however you only need to walk 10 seconds towards the American diner and you'll always find a seat. They also serve you at the buffet, we prefer this as maintains good hygiene, we never waited to be served more that minute, take no notice of anyone complaining about being served in the buffet, it's just not an issue. More than previous princess ships we experienced lots of dance parties in the atrium and there seemed to be great music everywhere, don't go on this ship expecting a quiet evening. You can easily find a quieter bar or area as most action seemed to happen in the piazza. We loved the ship, take no notice of negative reviews, we realised very quickly that this ship is not for old school princess faithfull! This is a new concept that's gonna appeal to a different and a little younger crowd, I'd say sun princess is more aiming for 40-60 year olds.
