We started from the cruise port Civitavechia after stayed in Rome for 5 days. If you are only going to the port for cruise only, it is very difficult to see rest of the city because after you dropped off to the port either by bus, $6 euro (highway robbery for twenty minutes ride)(tip: take Van taxi for same price, quicker and more comfortable, you don't have wait for all passinger to fill the bus). Once on the entrance to the ship, it was very quick to unload the luggage and to get on the ship. I like all the ports: Naples, Sicily, Malta, Split, Montenegro, and Corfu. All services were good, the entertainment were execellent, Broadway class stage show. However, the food were average buffet food, not a problem for me as I have been more than 15 cruises and I have been tire of eating cruise food, I learned to create my food from taking various dishes. Naples: I just walk around the city, very easy, just walk straight from port and come to a piazza, many interesting buildings there, google it. Sicily: we went to Taormina by train, 5 euro/person 20 mins walk from the port, once every hour, then bus 1 euro/person out in front of station which it is very crowded. I was lucky to make it on the 2nd bus, very 20 minutes. The town is high up in the hill. The bus stops around five minutes walk to the gate of the town. We just walked to villa commute, a beautiful garden, I enjoyed the views from the town. I think that I spent around 2 hours and catch the bus back to the train station around 2pm. Got back to port around 3pm, have sometime explore the church, old clock, near the port, very interesting, check google map for it. Malta, OMG, awoke and look out to the balcony, I thought that I went in time to the Arabian night storyland. That was one beautiful port experience. It was an overnight stay, I did a small boat harbor cruise for $10 Euro/person for 30 min, then explore the rest of the town. Very interesting place. Split, Croatia: we booked with the ship to Krka National Park, very good tour, took nine hours, walking around the waterfall was avergy hiking difficulty, did not like the lunch, wished we could skip that and got the extra hour to explore the old town in Split. We did not as the bus dropped directly back to the ship and no time to walk anywhere. Kotor, Montenegro: we just walk around, an old European village setting, very relax. Corfu, Greece, we walking to the old Fort following Google Map, we walked thru the local market area then ten minute walks on the beach side of the port, it had a good view of the fort. !0 euro/person entrance fee, for me, I like it, but easily a hour walk around the fort, then another hour to walk back to the port. A good day for us. We had 2 sea days, we came pass Mt. Etna, and Mt. Strombula, both active vocanos. Overall, one of my best cruises because of the port. If you could book a balcony, it provides a much better cruise experience as the view in the morning and evening, plus the fresh air. The ship was very smooth and quiet. Highly recommended, just don't expect a high class fine dinning experience. I am many experience cruisers also find any cruise food tiring after 3 days, just add in my opinion on cruisign.
