Sky Princess® elevates the distinctive, contemporary design and luxurious attractions of our renowned Royal-class ships to even loftier heights. You can look forward to our most exciting entertainment venues yet, our newest dining choices and award-winning chef partnerships, as well as more staterooms than ever to relax in. And that’s just the start.
Pros: • Beautiful ship- the interior design is elegant and modern. • Lots of great music from piano/strings/violin instrumentals to energetic pop style singing. • Even when ship was at full capacity, there were plenty of areas to stretch out, find a quieter area: wake view bar, upper level of Retreat, Take Five bar (on 6th level), Cielo dining room (deck6, aft). • Best music was Sean & Fede, Sen Valeski and Ian Bacon trio – relaxing and not overly intrusive. • Afternoon tea was lovely – scones with jam & whipped (maybe clotted) cream, variety of petite sandwiches and tea. • Catch by Rudi was exceptional. We would have eaten here every night. Sea bass, seafood bouillabaisse and crab cakes were outstanding. Pavlova dessert was a nice light finish. Really enjoyed the Belle Glos ‘Las Atluras’ Pinot Noir. • Crown Grill – excellent filet mignon was better than same cut from Rudi’s; Key lime dessert was fabulous. • Sabbatini’s Italian is great – ossobuco and Carbonara were stand outs as well as the decadent chocolate Rocher. • Final sea day in the buffet was an extravaganza of desserts – too many to name or even try. • Cabin steward was fine but nothing exceptional; room serviced twice/day. All staff were professional but we got the impression they were very busy and didn’t have the time to take a breath for pleasantries. This was not a deal breaker for us but others might feel the service was a bit perfunctory. Our feeling is the crew is very hard working but could benefit from additional staffing level. • Appreciated a flyer which stated locations & hours to get coffee. • We only ate breakfast and a few lunches in the buffet. Breakfast had the usual fare and some unusual choices: congee, shakshuka, fritatta. There were lots of choices: fish, beef, chicken, pork, vegan, mediterranean, Asian, gluten free, salads, desserts. One could easily have an enjoyable cruise with “only” the buffet and Main Dining Room. • Best Theatrical show was “Movement Art”. Beautiful impressive arial acrobatic dance telling a sweet love story with music and video. Appropriate for all ages and languages. • Balcony cabin was fine, a bit smaller than balcony on the Diamond. • VIBE-definitely energetic/loud vs our Japan Diamond Princess cruise. Not something Princess can control but a function of the client mix. Predominately Americans (USA) – unfortunately many are loud, rude and entitled. We practiced patience when exposed to repeated loud, drunk, boorish behavior, trying to ignore much of this unpleasantness. A lot of mobility impaired guests with scooters which could dominate the elevators, hallways and restaurants. Good to see these guests enjoying a cruise but the scooters need to be managed to minimize blockages. Cons: • Embarking – long lines to get through security, walking across street of drop-off traffic, chaotic process to pick up Medallion, then finally head to gangway. • Boarded on level 7 where everyone is squeezed into small area towards center lifts. Due to Rudi’s restaurant location, Port side of 7th level atrium is blocked. EVERYONE must enter and squeeze into the 7th floor elevator lobby. Congestion created a chaotic 1st impression. PLEASE Princess, board guests on level 5 or 6 so there are more pathways to walk aft or forward on embarkation day or clear a path through Rudi’s so guests can turn left on port side to disperse forward on ship. • Princess please consider quieter or only instrumental music in the atrium plaza during dinner service at Catch by Rudi, 7th mid. Often music from 5th floor plaza was too loud to converse in the 7th floor restaurant. The singers were too loud and seemed to think they were the stars when we needed background. • Popular shows in smaller venues (Vista) need a more equitable way to gain access. Often guests would camp out in seats from previous shows, “reserve” large number of seats. We showed up 35 minutes prior to the comedian and 80% of seats were being saved by 1 or 2 people. Maybe issue (free) tickets to limit hold overs, clear the venue between shows – there were some unpleasant interactions as we kept asking was a seat or 2 available to be told “it’s saved”. • Since the removal of the specialty cakes and large ice cream sundaes from the Premium package, very few seemed to be willing to pay for scoops of ice cream at Gelato (5, mid). That space was empty all the time. • Ocean Now, delivery to most anywhere on the ship, was a mixed experience. On our previous ship, deliveries came within 15”. On this ship, I think again, staffing is reduced as we received our food on the Sky deck but after 1 hour, never received our cocktails. On sea days, I think the bars are very busy and staff is overworked. Wake bar had only one crew when it was obvious that 2 are needed at a minimum.
Overall, a very good cruise. WE have been on about 30 cruises, 7 or 8 on Princess. The ship is beautiful. Tasteful, unlike many of Carnival's ships. We had a standard balcony. There was plenty of storage for the week. Would have preferred a solid sliding door to the shower, but water stayed confined to the shower area. Balcony had room for 2 chairs and a small table. We would rate the entertainment as excellent. I did not care for one of the production shows, which was not to my taste, but that is probably an individual thing. There were various musicians playing at various venues and they were all talented. The atrium was a jumping place-lot of activity. My criticisms are as follows: if you wanted juice in the buffet, it came from a machine which dispensed what was orange colored water. The same "juice " was served in the dining room. The cold cereals were in large bowls, not individual boxes. It could be anticipated, and was the case, that it was always stale. Since this , besides coffee, is what I have for breakfast, I was down to lunch and dinner. The dinners were a mixed bag-some had a good cut of meat, and other nights not. The waiter obliged with a substitute, but that is not the point. On the other hand, lunches were very good, with huge number of choices. The buffets never felt overcrowded, and we never had difficulty finding a table, though there were sometimes no silverware on tables. It would have been nice to have a pool with a roof, for inclement days, but the ship lacks one. The retreat pool is a nice quiet place for a swim but the pool is only about 3 feet deep; a deeper pool would have been preferred. The small pool aft was also shallow, about the same depth. The crew was polite and attentive.
