Just finished 14 day cruise on Princess Emerald Jul 3, 2025 Ireland, Scottish Highlands & Wales The ship, crew, entertainment and food were all excellent. In the 14 days on board, we never noticed a single staff member who was anything less than polite, professional, and accommodating. The entire crew worked together like clockwork, making every aspect of the cruise feel well-organized and giving the best service to the guests. We had 3 ports which required tender boats and the entaire organization was perfect. Senior officers are always around the ship and ready to talk. We were always well informed about upcoming ports and everything what concerns our cruise. My husband and me loved our 14 day cruise on The Emerald. She's updated and looks as beautiful as any other cruiseships we have been taken with newer ships Conclusion: Highly recommend cruise on Princess Emerad. The staff make this ship exceptionall.
We had a wonderful cruise and the scenery was amazing! Met many new friends and saw some amazing places. We are looking forward to our next cruise! We especially enjoyed the O'Malley's restaurant and bar! The entertainment was very good and the bar tenders and wait staff were extremely nice and pleasant. The Pizza is excellent for lunch and a snack and the ice-cream bar is also good. The very best restaurant is of course The Crown and the steak and bread are exceptional. Even though the ship is an older one it has been well kept and is extremely clean. Our steward was very thoughtful, friendly and accommodating. This was our 5th Princess cruise and we have always had a great experience with them and that is why we continue to look at their options first. Our only dislike is the buffet is sometimes just not what we like but i understand they are preparing large quantity for a large group and you cannot always please everyone. But we don't go for the food!
After a disappointing less than optimal experience with Princess in 2024, I was delighted to find the Emerald Princess up to the Princess pre-pandemic standards except for the food (but I've not found a single cruise ship since 2020 whose food has not suffered in both quality and variety so I took that with a grain of salt). The entertainment was very good to excellent, and discovering that we had four comedians booked during a 14-night cruise was a wonderful surprise. Multiple comedy sessions in the Club Fusion were timed so that we could also attend the main theater performances, and there were both G-PG rated and adult comedy options several nights. In Ireland there was a performance by local musicians and dancers which was a huge treat. Other than that one local performance, each theater show had both an early and a late show and we never saw anyone who was unable to get a seat (though we made sure to arrive 15 minutes early to get the seats we preferred). The games held nightly in the Explorers Lounge were fun as well. Cruise Director Harlequin and Activities Manager Josh as well as all the members of the Cruise Director's team were very engaged with the passengers and always entertaining and upbeat, which produced some really fun and funny games with a lot of passenger interaction. As to the meals, for the most part the main dining room meals were good. We did not try any of the specialty restaurants and ate in the buffet for breakfast and lunch. The buffet food was not great for the most part, though we could generally find something that we enjoyed eating. But the buffet has certainly suffered from what we enjoyed on Princess before the pandemic. Casino was ho-hum, not a big selection of games (no "Let It Ride") and the craps table was never open during daytime hours. So we didn't really spend any time in there. The itinerary was fabulous, and Princess did a great job with the tender operations as well as with the shuttle buses in those ports where we were not allowed to walk on the pier. Very efficient. Can't say too much about the shore excursions overall as we primarily used other options for those. But I will say that our party felt that the Princess shore excursion of "Stirling on your own and Falkirk Wheel" was a huge disappointment and waste of money. While we had 2+ hours in Stirling and it was nice to see the town, that was not enough time o walk all the way up to the castle and actually go inside to tour it and then get back to the bus on time - so we walked up and looked at it from the outside and then got some lunch. And the Falkirk Wheel was bad. Just bad. Nothing like what we'd expected from the description when we purchased the excursion. In fact, it was not only not fun, but I heard a number of people saying it was horrible, which was my assessment. I couldn't wait to be allowed off that boat. Really miserable experience. We did miss the Stornoway (Isle of Lewis) port due to weather; ship could not dock with the high winds, but aside from that the weather was gorgeous. Couldn't believe I was seeing so much sunshine in the UK. We did have rain in Edinburgh, but that was the only port where I saw any significant rainfall. We were in an interior cabin, for the first time with Princess, and found it to be the same size as the outside cabins we've booked in past on other Princess ships. It had plenty of storage space and we did not feel cramped at all - really just felt cozy and was well laid out. And Princess' WiFi and TV programming are the best we've found on any cruise line that we've sailed with. Our cabin attendant, Benil, gave the best service of any that we've had as far back as we can remember. He was efficient but never intrusive, and I found that I enjoyed the fact that Princess still provides cabin service twice daily as opposed to some other cruise lines that we've sailed with. Our experience aboard the Emerald Princess has really restored my faith in Princess overall and I would not hesitate to book travel on the Emerald again in future.
Positive things - Service was a 5 plus. Staff were very nice, accommodating and pleasant to deal with. Room service was amazing. Cabin crew kept our room clean and ready for us. Never was in our way. Food was okay, I believe they tried hard. Our meals were a hit and miss. Breakfast was great for me, always had one pancake and they brought me fresh strawberries and blueberries. The specialty restaurants were very good. Entertainers were ok. Never made it through the main shows, not impressed. Comedians were not worth seeing. The music groups were for the most part very good. Did not use any shore excursions, way to over priced. The ship overall was very clean and easy to get around. The worst part was their showers. We enjoyed the medallion, made everything easy. Disembarkation was easy, walked right off. The person they brought on to talk about the upcoming port was amazing. She gave out very valuable information. Worth listening to her.
