12 family members embarked on the 'voyage of the glaciers'. If you want to get up close to the glaciers in Glacier Bay, you are limited to cruise ships and itineraries. This itinerary, whether northbound or southbound, is perfect for getting up close to the glaciers and wildlife. We had a wonderful time. I was fearful of having the experiences of staying on an older ship, but once you understand that you can't make something old new, then you get used to the small showers, oscillating shower temperature, the older overall design and vibe, room wear, lack of power in the right spaces, and a bit of tiredness. Beds were very comfortable, and despite being on deck 5 in between public spaces, it was quite quiet except on embarkation day. The crew can make up for it for sure, and some of them did. The International Cafe, down the hall from our rooms on plaza deck, was great for example. However, service up on Lido deck (buffet) was sometimes non-existent when busy (great off-peak) and you would have to seek out self-service stations for hot beverages and juices (which was few and far between). More staffing would certainly resolve the issues. Food is what you expect from the buffet on Princess- adequate (nothing special) and plentiful. The Main Dining Rooms had great variety and both the presentation, temperature, and quality of food was very, very good. Service was mostly excellent, but there were times when we waited much longer than we should and felt like we wanted to get to activities but was waiting. Wait times for held reservations and for the walk-up dining rooms were beyond reasonable at times. I would not recommend the 'pub lunch'. We expected great but it was less than mediocre. Entertainment was very good, especially the musical presentations, be it in the Piazza, bars, or in the Princess Theatre (Bravo, we felt, was excellent). The naturalist and North to Alaska presentations left a bit to be desired and weren't 'our cup of tea'. Because this was a trip to Alaska, pools and hot tubs were not busy, but the public spaces below were quite crowded at times. Deck 19 was very quiet and hardly used, and if you wanted to curl up and read a book and watch the world go by, that was the place to go. Wifi was not great, which was a surprise as I thought the fleet had moved to Starlink, but bandwidths and latencies varied greatly depending on time of day and where you were. We had Princess Plus. Drinks and service throughout was fine. The decadent desserts were indeed decadent (they added large pieces of cake as an option). We did use up a fitness credit which was nice. It should also be a lot easier to pick up reservations both at Planks and Steamers, where you could only reserve on ship by dialing a number or going directly to the person responsible for making the reservation (she was quite helpful). The charcuterie offered at Vines was fine, but nothing you couldn't put together yourself up on Lido. Overall, the cruise (our third) exceeded our expectations, but there were lots of hiccoughs that could be solved with more crew, technology, and logistics.
