Overall, really nice but... Sailed Island Princess in past and loved it! Missing on the Majestic that we so enjoyed on the Island Princess were the Library and Cigar bar. Special: The Library was so enjoyable-- open 24 hours with all sorts of different books & games. Puzzles that people would start and leave, letting others fill in pieces along the way. In the morning there was always a grab and go of a new crossword or suduko. It was a quiet, yet sometimes no so quiet spot but was sequestered away in a smaller corner of the ship giving it the aura of its own special place. The cigar bar is where we met some really interesting people! Several of whom we ended up (by choice) sharing dinner with, enjoying special wine/whisky tasting events with, going to the casino with, etc. It was disappointing not to be able to have that same sort of "Titanic-type" special cigar bar retreat to enjoy. Pool(s): On Majestic there was an area clearly advertised as an "adult only" pool area. However, that entire pool area including the hot tubs were frequently overrun by kids. It was a covered area of the ship with a smaller pool, but the kids (ages 8-18) insisted on pushing each other around, splashing, yelling, running, towel slapping etc. When we mentioned our concern, we were unequivocally told that "no- there is no pool designated only for adults, the ship caters to everyone." However, when we produced the information from Princess' own website, we were told that the "materials had not been updated." A very, very poor excuse. Food: The main dining room food was OK, but the specialties, especially Sabatini's were excellent. Food/drink service in general, especially pool side bar service was very very slow. One night at the Grill (Steak house), we ordered wine and cocktails. Two cocktails arrived within 10 minutes, and the 2 wines took another 20 minutes...? Appetizers arrived in a timely fashion and were quite good, but it took a minimum of an another 20 minutes for entrees- which were excellent, to arrive. Trying to get refills wine/cocktails during that period, was frustrating at best. Didn't bother w dessert (although would have liked it) because we had already been there for too long and had other plans for the evening. We are usually NOT big buffet people, but the World Food Market on deck 16 exceeded all expectations!! WOW!!! Super clean, well stocked, with a wide variety of food, fruit, healthy options, fun options, all kinds of options! In addition, the incredibly helpful staff made a huge difference! On one the lower decks (maybe 6)was a smaller little "market " featuring coffees, and all kinds of grab and go food that was outstanding. Choices varied w time of day- but no matter what or when, it was consistently easy and excellent! Entertainment: We really enjoyed! The music throughout was terrific! The goofy Officers vs Passenger games which sounded pretty lame in the beginning were actually A LOT of fun! The cruise director, always upbeat and social lit up the room. Any on-ship entertainment we were engaged with (Learning to play Spoons, watching the hole in one contest, the chipping contest, the Dance off with crew/passenger contest, the top deck movies, the bands on main piazza) was really, really fun! Shopping: We bought our fair share of clothing and souvenirs. For the most part, really reasonably priced, well made, and very appreciated! Thought the higher end jewelry shops were a bit too aggressive in their sales approach, but can respect the situation. Perplexing was that there was no "sundry" type shop only a candy store that was only open at certain (not-fixed) times. One afternoon all we wanted was a bag a crisps. At 3 in the afternoon you could see them in the "candy store", but it would not be open for several hours...?? More importantly, there was a small closet off to the side with sundries (tylenol, razors, dramamine, tampons etc), but supply was limited. It was not well advertised and you never quite knew when it be opened. We did have one, at-sea day with some high seas rolling and several people we knew were seeking dramamine. The only place we know was the candy store, but again-- supply was limited and the hours of opening/closing unclear. Cabin: Our mini-suite was quite clean, very comfortable and we had a terrific steward. There were two small issues-- problem w lock on balcony door and overflowing toilet. Both were fixed post haste with little ado. De-embarkation: We found it a bit confusing. We opted to spend a few extra days in Barcelona on our own, not through Princess. We carried our own luggage down b/c we were afraid it'd be on its way to the airport had we not- but then found out (too late) we didn't need to.. We paid for "tickets" for Princess to provide transportation to Barcelona City Center, but during de-embarkation it was not clear in ANY way, what that mode of transportation was. Cab? Shuttle? Uber? Bus??? They were all there, but we had NO IDEA what had been "reserved" for us, neither did the people working at the transportation center. We ended up paying for a cab out of pocket ourselves, just to make sure we got were we needed to go. All in all- really wonderful, but some things could use some improvement. Would I sail Princess again-- yes, in a heartbeat, cannot wait to return for a new adventure!
Nice ship, Royal class but floor plan is completely different. Big and wide plaza with lot of extra restaurants with cover charges, more the usual. Not just Steak House and Italian, but also Irish pub with fish and chips:), Pizzeria, Sushi and seafood restaurant. Lot os shops, much more than usual. Not library or game room at all. Crew said is was converted, maybe to one of 10+ shops. Not Internet cafe, not enough tables in plazas, closet to international 24/7 cafe, maybe 5 or 6 total, impossible to use it. In Lido buffet, lot of table for 8 or 6, which is not smart at all, since were always occupied by one or two people. Food in buffet was a little bit below average, pizza was very good, even in free restaurant. Food in dining room was good. Entertainment was higher than usual princess level. I glad princess level is growing up after they drop a ball after Covid
The Cruise – Majestic Princess (Barcelona → Southampton) Stops in Málaga, Gibraltar, Cádiz, and Vigo. A very enjoyable experience overall, despite one downside (more on that below). This was our 7th cruise (Disney, NCL x3, MSC, Royal Caribbean) and our first with Princess Cruises, a “Premium” line. I was expecting a clear difference compared to NCL or Royal. Verdict: not that much. A slight difference, but nothing mind-blowing. The Ship and the Cabin The Majestic Princess is a beautiful, well-maintained ship that’s about ten years old. Despite its 3,900 passengers, it never felt crowded. Our mini-suite was perfect: spacious, well designed, lots of storage, and the balcony was 100% appreciated. Even with four beds set up, we could move around easily. The Food Excellent overall. Dinners in the main dining room were very good, even if the daily menu sometimes felt a bit uninspired (thank goodness for the classics who are always available). But the quality of the ingredients made all the difference: rack of lamb, prime rib, halibut, striped bass, shrimp, scallops… No cheap fish here, unlike the competition!
