Ship Reviews

This was a novel time for us to travel, but it met all of our expectations as we love the cruise line. We're repeat travelers on Oceania so we were very familiar with the smaller ship amenities, dining, and daily routines. The itinerary was mostly a positive - we took 4 excursions and improvised our own plans to see the other ports, and that worked well (especially for staying out of the midday sun). Even though we visited some towns during holiday closures, the sponsored sightseeing still operated well. Exception was Port Antonio, Jamaica - it would have been just fine to enjoy the bar at shipside rather than take any tour there. Judging from our shipmates, many with more than 20 cruises, the Oceania 2-week sailing is clearly a popular way to spend the holidays, being pampered and soaking up as much or as little of the sights as you wish. It's a little more relaxed than other O cruises with respect to dress and the number of kids on board (but still fewer than 20 youths, I would estimate). Some of the crew were able to host their families on board for the holiday, which was a very nice vibe.

Overall a great cruise, but there were a few shortfalls. We chose this cruise due to the itinerary as we wanted to tour French Polynesia. I am puzzled by the ports that Oceania chose - Fakarava and Nuku Hiva, while lovely places, offer next to nothing to do. In fact, Oceania offered a total of 1 excursion in only one of the ports. There was literally nothing to do or see. Why choose these islands when there are other more interesting places in the same area. As for the ship itself, it is evident that it is about to be retired - quite outdated, and showing wear and tear (rust, tiles coming off the pool area etc). I did love the fact that the ship was small - only 700 passengers. The food was excellent, as always in the main dining room as well as the buffet, grill and specialty restaurants. It would have been nice to have more than 2 specialty restaurants since it was a 17 day cruise, and it was difficult to get reservations as we were a group of 6 and thy don't have many tables of that size. The drinks were excellent and the bar and restaurant staff were amazing. Same goes for the cabin stewards. The cabin itself was just ok. The bed was comfortable and there was ample storage a closet space. But no full length mirror!! And a shower so tiny it cannot even be described. Will definitely cruise on Oceania again, but on a newer ship!
