Ship Reviews

Very clean everywhere! They're cleaning and painting nonstop. Very good service and happy staffs. The kids club are good, my kid was happy. I'd skip puerto vallarta and mazatlan, only go to cabo next time. Cabo beach is clean, private, water is warm and calm. Better infrastructure. Here are the dishes I recommend at MDR/Savor/Taste: Lunch: Mushroom soup, scallop gratin, chicken flautas, St.louis BBQ pork, New england clam chowder, hush puppies, beef tostadas, warm brie salad. Cuban chicken with plantain. Caprese salad Peanut butter cheesecake (not so sweet) Banana pie (not so sweet) Dinner: cream of cauliflower soup, shrimp cake, cream of corn soup. Pesto cream potato gnocchi, bacon wrapped cajun shrimp, braised lamb shank, and lamb tikka, herb rotisserie chicken, hawaiian pork belly, sword fish carpaccio, chicken lettuce wrap, asian spare rib w/ summer roll, chocolate lava cake. The local Bar & Grill Fried fish w/ coleslaw Wings Nachos Fried plantain Carrot & walnut cake Raspberry cheesecake

Everything was wonderful except for the noise in our cabin (Club Balcony) at night from the music below us in "The Cavern" venue until 1 am most nights. Absolutely fabulous food in the Garden Cafe for breakfast lunch and dinner with many choices. The Texas BBQ dining experience was good. Tasty food- great ambiance with country band entertainment. Very attentive waitstaff. The main dining room was beautifully appointed with furnishings and lighting with carefully prepared delicious appetizers and entrees. My wife's Shrimp Fettuccine was absolutely the best. My 5 cheese penne pasta was also delicious. The More at Sea package is definitely worth it. The numerous bars onboard serve up some very well prepared cocktails and a nice selection of wine. I do not consume alcohol but got to say the virgin cocktails were creative an delicious especially in the Mojito bar. We really prefer NCL over the other cruise lines we have sailed (Princess and Carnival) definitely thumbs up. Next time I will practice due diligence in researching our cabin to find one away from noisy venues.

About Us This is our 10th cruise, 8 of which have been on NCL (HAL for the first 2). We've done the Mexican Riviera 6 times now, the last 3 on the Bliss. It's our preferred itinerary primarily for the short flight from Portland, OR, and the ship herself. My husband and I love the Bliss. Since we've done this itinerary many times, we don't get off the ship on port days. We enjoy the lighter crowds and people watching. Travel/Embarkation With the MAS package our travel was arranged through NCL. It was smooth and easy, quick through TSA, despite the government shutdown. LA traffic on a Sunday morning was light, check in was smooth, and we were onboard by noon. Off to the pool deck for libations! Our cabin was ready by 3pm, and all luggage arrived soon after. Cabin We love the aft balcony location. This time we were in the highest deck we've yet had. It was quiet and lovely on the veranda, especially during sail aways and sunset. We saw dolphins jumping alongside the wake one evening. Aldwin, our cabin steward, introduced himself right away. We are really easy guests - no fuss, no muss. We make our own bed and neaten things up, we return any dishes or glassware and really only require fresh towels each day. We requested paper copies of the Freestyle Daily, a robe and nightly ice, which Aldwin supplied. Whenever we saw him he was friendly and solicitous. The Ship Herself We knew the Bliss had been in drydock earlier in the year, and that the major change had to do with adding cabins where part of the Observation Lounge is. We walked through and certainly noticed the reduced space, but there was still plenty of seating and buffets throughout. We visited the new Horizon Beach area on deck 17. It was cute but not a draw for us. Everything was very clean and fresh. Nothing seemed dingy or sad. Despite being told this was a full passenger list, we never felt crowded in any venue: not in the Atrium, by the pool, in the bars or restaurants. I remember areas feeling much more choked when we were last on in 2022, but this time everything flowed nicely. There was rarely a wait at the bars, and we were seated immediately at all dining venues. I mentioned this to other passengers, and they agreed that there were fewer throngs of people around. Curious. I would recommend using the aft elevators rather than forward. The majority of the time the cars were empty when they arrived. Food Yes, everyone's favorite topic and so subjective. We are foodies but not the bougie type. At least we hope not. My husband is a very good home cook. We rarely dine out, as he makes such wonderful meals already, so it was fun to try many venues and items. We tried to be up early enough to have breakfast at Taste or Savor. It was a nice start to the day. The MDRs all offered a variety of dinner selections that we wanted to try. Usually we'd order 2 appetizers each in order to taste different dishes. Seasoning was on point for most everything, and there were a few things we're going to try and recreate at home. Entrees tended to be quite large; rarely could we finish, no matter how tasty something was. The potatoes were the only disappointment, but that's minor. The proteins were all cooked to our liking and were of good quality. The waitstaff was always checking in to make sure we were happy, which we were. We did go to three specialty venues as part of the MAS package. Le Bistro we've been to many times before - it's our favorite. The escargot were every bit as good as we remembered. Sadly, the duck wasn't being offered, but my sea bass and my husband's lamb were both outstanding. Funnily enough, they called it a lamb shank with a chop, but it turned out to be two lollypop chops. We weren't complaining - amazing flavor. I ended up nibbling on the bones to get all the last bits of meat. We've also been to Teppanyaki before. It was a boisterous and entertaining dinner with some of the best steak we tasted onboard. Side note: the shrimp were the culinary stars of the cruise. We had pastas, paella, scampi and other shrimp dishes, and they were always cooked to perfection. Of the the three specialty restaurants, Cagney's was our lowest rated. The steaks themselves were perfectly cooked (rare, to our liking), and the beef quality was good, but we just couldn't finish. The sides were slightly disappointing: the truffle mash tasted like it it had just been finished with truffle salt rather than incorporated during cooking, and the sauteed mushrooms were just so-so. But the experience was elegant and fun. The Garden Cafe was fine. Nothing surprising or special, besides the daily pakora offerings in the Taste of India section. Tip: if you want an omelette in the morning, head to the 2nd location at the back of the buffet. In fact, that goes for most areas. People make a beeline for the first station they see, which gets really crowded. There are identical stations around back that are rarely crowded. There is also a beverage station on the port side so you can avoid going into the buffet proper. We were guzzling iced tea in between the many alcoholic drinks, and it was easiest to refill there. The Local was fun for afternoon snacks. The sweet chili wings were a hit. I tried both the Reuben and the Wrangler burger, which were tasty. Better than I remember from last time. The only so-so items we tried were the pretzel bites and spinach artichoke dip. Nothing really wrong with them but nothing to write home about. Entertainment Live music onboard was wonderful. Our favorite groups were Red Horses and Tropical Beats. So talented! We caught part of Icons and also the Beatles Experience. We've seen Jersey Boys before so skipped it this time. All performers are hard working with great voices, but we didn't want to sit through the entire show. Karaoke in the Cavern Club nightly was extremely entertaining. And yes, we were up there belting out songs most nights. We played some of the trivia and game shows in the Atrium. They were hit or miss. It depended on which member of the Cruise Director's staff was hosting. A dynamic host could make a dull show entertaining, while a less-enthusiastic host could drag down even a good activity. Disembarkation/Post-Cruise Since our return flight wasn't until 8pm we chose to spend our excursion credits on a post-cruise bus tour of LA. Although we'd lived in LA during college, we rarely hit any of the touristy areas. We got to visit Olvera Street, which we hadn't been to in 30+ years, and we'd never seen the LA Coliseum or USC campus (I'm a UCLA alum). In Hollywood we actually strolled the Walk of Fame and compared hand/feet prints at the Chinese Theatre, another thing we never did when we lived there. The tour allowed for ample time at the Farmer's Market, where we had a wonderful lunch before being dropped at the airport around 2:30pm. We couldn't check our bags through until 4 hours before flight time, so we watched airport traffic to pass the time. Once we could go through, we again found security lines short and easy. Then it was 3 hours at the gate until a smooth flight back to PDX. We were home before midnight. Well, Wasn't ANYTHING Bad About This Cruise??? The only negative we can say about the cruise had nothing whatsoever to do with NCL or the ship. It was the weather! Of course it was hot, which we expected and welcomed, but the humidity, especially in Mazatlan, was stifling. Whereas we love to sit on the pool deck to listen to music and people watch, the high humidity sent us to the Waterfront, when we could stand the heat outdoors, or indoors to Sugarcane. Poor us. We had to endure solicitous bar staff who just wanted to ply us with more Mojitos while we played Yahtzee, Cribbage or read our books! Cruise life is so very hard to take, but we adapted like pros. :) Final Thoughts Cruising, like so much in life, is what you make of it. We go with open minds, ready to unplug from regular life and just enjoy. We are very aware that the onboard staff works hard - harder than most of us can imagine. They have to endure grumpy people, complaints, rudeness and often (sadly) prejudice. Yet they smile and make every attempt to create a fantasy world of luxury, excess and enjoyment for the passengers, week after week, cruise after cruise. We are extremely appreciative to every staff member we met who made our most recent experience wonderful.

Just got off the 11/2/25 NCL Bliss Mexican Riviera cruise. First time cruising solo and had a solo studio inside cabin. This was first time I'd done an inside cabin and I was worried that it would be claustrophobic -- turns out I LOVED it. Cabin felt roomy for how small it was and provided plenty of space for me to unpack into, even though I seriously OVER-packed for this cruise! Bliss is a beautiful ship, and very well laid out. My only complaint would be that there were only two banks of elevators -- forward and aft -- whereas other ships this size (such as Carnival Panorama) all have 3 banks. This means that both forward and aft elevators are closer to the middle of the ship and so if you've got a truly forward cabin, it's still a long walk back towards mid-ship to get to the "forward" elevators. Other than that, though, I especially liked the fact that on deck 8 (promenade deck on most ships) all of the restaurants and bars had an outside component. It was particularly nice to be able to relax outside with a warm tropical breeze sitting at a bar socializing as the ocean rolls by. The outside spaces had great wind management, so it was rarely anything more than a little breezy outside. My other favorite part of the ship was the observation lounge on deck 15. It was a quiet refined space with a limited buffet (mostly serving lite snacks such as finger sandwiches, hors d'oeuvres or breakfast pastries as well as a full bar. The live entertainment was the best I've ever seen at sea. Jersey Boys absolutely blew me away! I'm a theater nerd, and no-exageration it was Broadway touring quality both in the staging and performances. Within moments I had completely forgotten I was on a cruise ship! The Beatles cover-band were excellent as well, and the piano bar was the most fun I'd ever had at such a venue -- the artist, Karey Nickel, was an absolute natural showman and was having such a good time himself and interacting with the audience that that good time was just infectious! Food was probably the weakest link on the cruise, and it was by no means bad. Much of my previous cruise experience was with Carnival, and I would say the while Carnival has a better food SYSTEM (food is always fast and hot), NCL has better overall food but has a harder time getting it to you. Many of the MDR meals were barely warm when served and while service was always helpful and personable, there were occasions where getting a dish or drink took a long time to get to your table. Oddly enough, when that happened, the food was always extra fresh and piping hot. I'm guessing they missed the order, and then when they realized they had done that they rushed a fresh one out directly to your table. I appreciated that all of the MDRs had white tablecloths for every meal. I honestly enjoyed the MDR meals more than I did the specialty dining (I dined at Le Bistro, Cagney's and the Teppanyaki place). Dining solo, the service at Le Bistro and Cagney's was pretty stuffy -- and honestly very sub-par at Cagney's. They brought me a cheaper wine then I ordered, and never did the tasting ritual with me. Normally that's not a big deal, but when you're paying a $60 cover charge for the fine-dining experience, its these little things that set the evening apart. I brought this up with the Matre'd at Cagneys towards the end of my meal, respectfully and constructively, and ended up having a good chat with both him and my waiter to discuss how I felt my expectations weren't met. It ended up being very amicable, and to my surprise (and I didn't ask for or expect this) they comped the entire meal and drinks for me. I think the fact that I was dining solo in these restaurants worked against me in part. All-in-all I had a GREAT cruise and a FANTASTIC time, at a very reasonable cost with no solo supplement to pay. Speaking of solo supplement, the solo studio cabins included a private solo lounge which had juice and espresso machines as well as fresh fruit and pastries. And throughout the cruise, NCL had a dedicated solo cruise director who arranged solo group meetups in the lounge each night at 5:00pm, and anyone who wanted to would form a big group (usually 15-20 of us) to dine at 5:30 in one of the MDRs. If I solo cruise again, NCL will be at the top of my list for cruise lines to use. And even if I'm going with a group, the great time I had on NCL Bliss would cause me to strongly consider NCL for my next cruise as well.
