Cruise was great! We did round trip from Barcelona. The food was good and there were a lot of options (we are not foodies though). The bartenders were not shy with the alcohol either. For our time in Italy, (Naples, Rome, Florence/Pisa) we did private tours and I HIGHLY recommend Rome in Limo. Jany was great to work with and their drivers and tour guides were awesome! We saw way more than we thought we would and were back to the ship in plenty of time. And they were a lot cheaper than the cruise lines tours. In Rome though, you cannot do the Vatican and Colosseum in the same day because the security lines are too long. We had tickets for the Vatican and saw the Colosseum from the outside. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly too. I was expecting that to be chaos but it wasn’t. My only minor complaint is that not all the digits worked on our in room safe so the code we usually use, we couldn’t.
Embarkation was very well organised and we were swiftly onto the ship and having lunch and a drink in the Garden Cafe. The ship is well presented following recent refurbishment. We stayed in a balcony cabin on floor 11 which was ok in size, balcony quite small but more than adequate. Restaurants: complementary by far Shanghai Noodles was the best and went twice because of this. Taste and Savor were a bit hit and miss really - breakfast in Taste was good, dinner in both had a couple of issues ie 3 of 4 meals arrived together whilst waiting for 4th for quite some time - so not dining together, another occasion all meals a bit lukewarm Manhattan was excellent for dinner each time we dined there Speciality dining - we did La Cucina, Cagney and Teppanyaki - all very good Garden cafe had plenty of choice to suit everyone, missing some of the 5* options like smoked salmon and generally limited fish choices Entertainment : due to the high % of USA guests it wasn’t as varied as I would’ve liked being from UK. Also a bit repetitive in the atrium and shakers bar - need to switch it up a bit. Red, White and British was an excellent music through the decades show as was the Rumours show. Also enjoyed the magician in the theatre. Syd Norman’s - 7/10 - venue couldn’t cope with demand Duelling pianos in Headliners was good but a bit USA orientated and again not big enough venue Enjoyed a boogie at Spice H20 several times Generally entertainment not as varied as other cruise lines we have been on. Pool/sundeck Typical cruise ship sardine packed pool area. Went to Adults only sundeck a few times , needed some background music, tv backdrop was a bit boring Disembarkation- well organised until we got outside when we were left to dehydrate and burn in the med 90+ degrees heat. Come on NCL get some more gazebos and water - taxi line was an hour long to get into town
We had a great cruise experience on our 11 day Mediterranean cruise. Second time on Norwegian and more than several cruises with other lines. We had two mini-suite balcony cabins, one with four teens and one with two adults. It accommodated both groups perfectly. There were some changes to the timing of the ports but I do not think this could be helped and it did not impact our trip at all. We did not go to either of the big shows but we did go to almost all of the game show style events in the atrium. We really enjoyed the group interactive events. There was a nice mix of age groups on this itinerary. Food: A bit lacking. The buffet was decent. Breakfast fine. The three included restaurants were also decent but they were slow service, and did not have enough variety. We ate off the boat frequently so we did not feel it was worth it to do the specialty dining. Maybe that was good. But I wish the restaurants offered different menus at all three locations so you could pick the type of food you felt like that night. There were also no special nights like tonight is seafood night, or tonight is greek night etc. I know that is the idea with freestyle dining but there could be a little more thought put into it. Pros: Rooms were great and I would highly recommend getting the mini-suite for the bigger bathroom if there are more than two people in the room. It made a big difference in comfort. The balconies were very nice. The alcohol drinks were not weak and there was a lot of variety. You can get two drinks at a time which was helpful for a larger group. The sodas are expensive so if you have people who drink a lot of them it might be worthwhile. We could get pool towels to take with us to the beach which was nice. Cons: We were on deck 13, mid ship and several nights all of us noticed our beds shaking quite a bit from engine rumbling. Pools were very crowded and people would put towels on chairs in the shade but did not seem to use them - there should be a chair time limit. Coffee included was the worst coffee I think I have ever had. We would wait and have wonderful espressos off the boat. In Europe its the thing to do there anyway :)
