My husband and I planned this cruise over a year and a half ago and through talking it up to friends, it snowballed to a group of 49 of us. There were many first time cruisers in our group. It took some of them a little time to get over the sensory overload, but they loved it by the end. 2 couples even took advantage of Cruise Next. The itinerary was so incredible that it took a while to fully process everything that we were able to experience. Most of us spent 2 days in Venice before the cruise (I have to also highly recommend the Hotel Saturnia and International in Venice) and easily took the train to Trieste. Embarkation -A breeze! We signed up for a 10:30 embarkation time and I had my first Aperol Spritz in my hand at O'Sheehans at 11:03. It was more like 2:00 by the time we got our luggage. Club Balcony Cabin- We splurged for a club balcony which wasn't that different than our previous balcony cabin on the Encore. We did really like the bigger bathroom since we were on the ship for 10 days. The bed was super comfortable! I heard that they had replaced the mattresses while the ship was in a recent dry dock. I had also heard that USB ports had been added bedside. That did not apply to our cabin or any of our friends on the 10th deck. Food- Of course, Le Bistro and Cagney's was great. Taste, Savor, and Manhattan Room had decent food for the number of diners being served. We never waited more than 20 minutes to get a table, even when there was 8 of us. One member of our group was gluten free, so they would go through the next day's menu with her the night before. Shanghai Noodle Bar was also pleasantly surprising. Vibe Beach Club - We splurged for Vibe because I hurt my back 3 weeks before my trip, so we ended up spending more time on the ship than we had originally planned to. It was worth every penny! The pool deck was mobbed, but there was never more than 12 people at Vibe. The Vibe staff was incredible, although I am totally blaming them for the 3 lbs. I gained. I constantly had a drink in my hand. My husband and I would always have a hot tub to ourselves and even though it was hot out, just being wet cooled us down. Spice H2O- Many of our friends would hang out at Spice because it was quieter than the pool deck and they would just cool down in the waterfall area. Most of our group would also hang out there at night. Shows- I was disappointed that they didn't have a Broadway show. We saw Kinky Boots on the Encore and it was amazing. We did see Red, White, and British, but it wasn't what we expected. Although everyone was super talented, the dancers took away from the music. Syd Norman's was always mobbed, but some people in our group went almost every night. Crowd Trivia in the Atrium was fun. Misc - Other than the Vibe Bar, we loved French Raspberry on the rocks (instead of martini) from Shakers that we would drink sitting on the Waterfront. We also enjoyed the experiencing the Ice Bar, but the mocktail was actually the best drink. Disembarkation - I love that NCL allows cruisers to have a leisurely breakfast before leaving the ship. We had the quickest and easiest disembarkation ever, but there was a long line for taxis. Because we were also spending 2 extra days in Barcelona, we thought we could just Uber. No one would pick up our Uber request, so we wished we had pre-arranged transportation.
It was heaven like experience on earth. This was our second cruise with Norwegian out of three. Very clean and superb comfort . No pressure for tipping. Wheelchair friendly for my wife. Entertainment was mediocre but not bad. Boarding was slightly chaotic but it was orderly. Tea selection and coffee machine were great. Their ginger honey tea was hit. It disappeared the moment the shelves were filled. Deck 8 with walking track surrounding the whole ship and relaxing under full moon on a luxury arm chair was bliss-full exercise. Their Irish pub open 24 hours for free soft drink and food was a bonus on the ship. Their eight elevators were also in great condition. Stairs to their garden cafe on deck 15 from our deck 11 was gentle exercise that I never failed to take. When Guest services became busy, they came over and sat with us in a bar for us to avoid standing in queue. Shore excursions were expensive but had all the answers.
Just back from our second cruise with NCL. Out of 13 previous cruises with various cruise lines our first NCL cruise, NCL Spirit, was the best but NCL Breakaway was even better. I really cannot understand some of the negative reviews we found it difficult to find real fault with anything. The food was outstanding, yes you find the same food in the buffet everyday but the choice is so vast that you can eat something different everyday and still not get to eat every choice available. The food in the main dining rooms is delicious, the service and ambience professional and friendly but it's the speciality dining that is truly special the standard of food and service is excellent and a real treat. The entertainment was great, so many choices, loved the bars, though two of the shows we booked where cancelled due to injury and we where so disappointed as we where told they where very good. Our balcony cabin on deck 12 was spacious, comfortable with loads of storage, larger than normal balcony, huge comfy bed and a decent bathroom which could do with an upgrade but was always kept immaculately clean. Overall there was a great atmosphere on the ship, I loved the Waterfront, the outside deck where you can sit and have a drink watching the sunset, but what made this cruise for us was the paid upgrade to The Vibe Beach club, a private adults only section of the upper deck with gorgeous comfy sunbeds, brollys, jacuzzis, cold showers to cool down and our two fab, friendly. fun waiters who constantly brought us flavoured iced water, drinks and fruit skewers, it was pure luxury, a little expensive, but worth every penny. Our only negitive would be the cost of the excursions which where a little steep but overall an excellent experience and I think we will definitely stick with NCL from now on.
