Ship Reviews

The professional crew members of the Norwegian Jewel work tirelessly to cater to your every need,we had the pleasure of encountering the following individuals that went above in their friendliness and helpfulness: Captain Mikko and all of the Senior Officers who ensured our safe passage. Cruise Director-Brynne, she was next level, her bubbly personality was a perfect fit for her title and from the moment we walked onboard she expertly guided us over the next 7 days and nights of all the goings on onboard the ship as well as critical debark and embark info for our port visits of Bermuda and Halifax. Alana- Our Assistant Cruise Director Our Room Steward- Moh Fadii, a tireless worker who always made his job look easy, always a smile, kind words, fist bump and hugs every time we saw him! Bartender/ Server- Luis Bar server-Michael Oscar- Server at the Spinnaker Lounge Erwin- Server at the Martini Bar The crew at Cruise Next-Kai, Ana Maria and Victor. We would highly recommend the Rising Son catamaran excursion, it was truly a great experience. The military appreciation program that Norwegian has in place for all their ships is truly unique and was such a surprise as to how they wove it into our cruise package…Thank you for honoring and caring about all our military members, dependents both Active Duty and Veterans!! We were truly impressed with the Norwegian Jewel and all the professionals who make the experience 1st Class! We have already booked a follow up cruise next year on the Norwegian Pearl.

For this trip, I sailed with my family as a part of a group cruise. This was my 4th cruise overall, and 3rd with Norwegian. The Ship: Despite being over 20 years old, the Jewel was a very well maintained ship with nice facilities and has the same recognizable Norwegian feel to it. The layout in some areas was a bit odd, but the signage was very helpful in navigating to where I wanted to go. The Bliss and Spinnaker lounges did provide good views and seating areas, but do get there early. The promenade on deck 7 was really cool to be able to walk around the entirety of the ship, providing a nice walking area with great ocean views. Cabin: We booked 2 connecting balcony rooms, where the rooms were pretty small with not much storage, but just enough if all you want to do to is use it to sleep, bathe, and spend time on the balcony. The beds, sheets, and pillows were all comfortable and allowed me to sleep very well. The provided soap, shampoo, and body wash were just okay. Service: The quality of customer service we experiences was once again amazing. Our stateroom attended personally introduced himself to us at the beginning of the trip and kept our rooms nicely cleaned. and provided towel animals without us asking. One of the restaurant hostesses remembered my families name and cabin number, where she personally greeted us by name each time she checked us in. Dining and Food Quality: Compared to the 2 other NCL cruises I've been on in the past, the food just as good, with most dishes being very good to just good, and a small few being not very good. The main dining rooms and specialty restaurants did provide better food quality compared to the buffet, where I only really got breakfast and ice cream from it. The 3 specialty diners we went to, Cagney's, La Cucina, and Moderno were all good and I would recommend dining there. Entertainment and Activities: For a smaller and older ship, it was missing some of the amenities of the newer ships I've been on, but that didn't stop them from giving plenty of options on how to spend our day. The various event staff were all very friendly and I looked forward to the events and games they hosted. Shows: This sailing comprised of 4 shows and a guest magician, which were all very good. The 3 production shows of Broadway Cabaret, Ignite the Night, and Motor City Moves were well put together and well choreographed, with each of the cast members putting on entertaining and memorable performances. The crew talent show was a nice and different show experience to the other NCL cruises I've been on, where I enjoyed witnessing the staff showcase their talents in a way their usual jobs didn't. This sailing also had a magician onboard, where his show was also fun and interactive. Excursions: For Bermuda, we booked the Hidden Gems Exploration Adventure and a Glass Bottom Boat Swim and Snorkel, both of which were very good. The Hidden Gems Exploration Adventure was rated a 3/3 in terms of difficulty, but my family and I felt it should have been a 5 because of how physically straining it was. Outside of the physicality, it was a really fun trip and I got to see a lot of the island and our guide was amazing. The Glass Bottom boat swim and snorkel was very cool and the coastline snorkel was really fun. I would recommend both excursions, but keep in mind they may be harder than their ratings suggest. Disembarkation: Getting off right at the port to have our driver waiting right outside was genuinely a smooth experince. Final Verdict: I would 100% recommend this ship and itinerary to anyone looking into it, and look foward to cruising again soon.

I sailed the Jewel out of Philly on 8/6/26 with my 20-something son on a casino promo. We had just sailed the Prima in May, and I wasn't planning on taking another cruise this summer, but the promo offer and the convenience of being able to drive to the ship made it all just too easy and I couldn't resist. I'll start my review with the negatives - there really aren't many - then I'll get into all the things I really liked about this cruise. I am a balcony diva, but I elected to keep the inside stateroom I was offered and spend my $$ on other things. We had stateroom port FWD - my favorite location on any ship. The room was small, as expected. The beds were separated, and there was a padded stool at the desk. Those were the only places to sit. The closet had plenty of room for clothes but not for stowing suitcases, so they went under the beds. The shower was a good size, but the toilet was tucked into the corner on an angle. I am 5'2" and it was a tight fit. A larger human will have a difficult time. At night we could hear what sounded like dryers running. It was muffled and not incredibly loud but definitely audible. It usually cut off around 11PM or so. One night we were hearing a weird metallic sound we couldn't identify - like springs popping. It only happened one night. It didn't cause any real problems for us, but it might be an issue for light sleepers. You know those fishies in the hallway carpet that swim toward the front of the ship? Or the triangles in the carpet that point toward the front of the ship? Jewel doesn't have that, which is an issue for directionally challenged people like me. Jewel does not serve Veuve Clicot by the glass, even if you have Free at Sea+, and not even in Le Bistro. You can get it only by the bottle. And none of the bars are fully stocked and serving until about 9PM on embarkation day when you reach a certain distance from the coast. The entertainment on this ship is not nearly as good as on other ships. The shows are mostly song and dance type, and the live music around the ship definitely skews to snoozy, easy-listening type stuff. We did see a magician performance our last night, which we enjoyed. But most of the cruise, I felt like Ricky Bobby running around the racetrack yelling "Help me, Syd Norman!!" I found the ship to be in very good condition despite her age. Some might say she is outdated - I say she is classic. Yes, she has some "old-fashioned" features you will never see on newer ships. The ceiling feels a bit low in some (not all) areas. But she was refurbed in the last few years and is kept immaculately clean. While Jewel does have a kids' club and a teen club, I would think twice about bringing kids on this ship. The arcade is a sad, cramped little room. There are no water slides, splash zones, ropes courses, rock walls, or mini golf courses. While certainly not hostile to kids, there are other ships in the fleet with much more to offer children. The food overall was good, except for the pizza in the buffet, which was terrible. NCL just does not do pizza well in my experience. Our favorite restaurant is Cagney's, which we do every cruise. The food in Cagney's was excellent, as always. We had the crabcake, filet mignon, garlic mushrooms, and chocolate cake. All excellent. The service, while not terrible, was kind of meh, though. We had FAS+ and ordered Aqua Panna for the table. We finished the first bottle and asked for another. Our server poured from the second bottle, and then took it away. So we got flagged on water? I have no idea. Moderno was the overall winner on this cruise. The food was excellent, and our server was attentive and friendly. Very good variety of food, excellent quality, fun experience. Make sure to try the grilled pineapple! Le Bistro was excellent as well. My son tried escargot for the first time and really liked it. My coq au vin was so tender it fell apart with a fork. Very flavorful. The Ile Flotante was a unique and delicious dessert. We ate dinner in Tsar's Palace only once. We both had the shrimp alfredo with linguine, and it was very good. One thing I really like about this ship is that the specialty bars are all clustered in bar city. You can get any kind of drink there at one bar or another. You don't have to trek halfway across the ship to get a martini for yourself and an old fashioned for your companion (like on the Prima). Even though our sailing was sold out, it never felt really jammed anywhere - again, unlike the Prima. We had no problems getting loungers on deck 13, a short walk down the stairs to deck 12 and the pool. I had no problems getting on my favorite slot machines in the casino even though there were only 4 of them. The buffet is huge, so no problem getting a table there. Never had a problem getting a seat in the theater for anything. The crew on this ship, overall, was excellent. We encountered so many friendly, helpful crew members. We found the organization and direction on this ship far superior to that of the Prima. Cruise Director Brynne has a very good all-female staff who did a terrific job with the Not-So-Newlywed Game, The Perfect Couple Game, and the Mr. Sexy Legs contest on the pool deck. Shout out to the CruiseNext Director, Victor, who got Mr. Sexy Legs started with his own performance! The overall vibe on the Jewel is more chill and relaxed than on other ships. There is always something going on somewhere, but not all things are interesting to all people. And there aren't 100 different things going on at the same time in different places to choose from. This was great for me because I like to factor in a bit of relaxation among the fun and adventure of a cruise. But if you are the kind of person who needs to be on the go every minute, you may want to choose a larger, more exciting ship. One last thing, which will be good or bad depending on your perspective: Jewel is much friendlier to smokers than some other ships. There is no designated smoking vs. non-smoking section in the casino, one can smoke anywhere while gambling. Most of the time it did not smell smoky because they do a good job ventilating it with fans. And the Pit Stop on deck 13, just above the adult pool, allows smoking. I have previously sailed only on the Escape and the Prima. Jewel offered a very different "feel," which I really enjoyed.
