Our award-winning AmaSonata sings her melodious tune down Europe’s great rivers. Most accommodations have twin balconies, so you can enjoy the ever-changing scenery however you wish, along with amenities like Entertainment-On-Demand, high-speed Internet access and English-language TV stations. A soft color palette in each stateroom calms the mind for relaxation, but when you’re ready to get active, head to the fitness center or up to the Sun Deck to the heated pool. Crisp white tablecloths and napkins grace the tables in the subdued Main Dining Room, while The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant highlights its 5-star multi-course cuisine with gold-hued tones and a twinkling overhead centerpiece. With a stunning Main Lounge, tranquil library, sun-deck walking track, massage and hair salon, and gift shop, you’ll never find a dull moment—and will sing AmaSonata’s praises while sailing on board.
This was our first and hopefully first of many river cruises with AMA. It exceeded our expectations in every way. The stateroom was beautiful with adequate storage. The service was a standard of excellence in every area. The food was unique, plentiful, delicious and well presented. Dining options are more limited than on an ocean cruise but that was not a factor for us. Most of the excursions were well planned and done by well trained and informative local guides. There were a few things that were not perfect. At most ports we were docked in tandem with other ships. This meant that our views from our stateroom in port were completely blocked and required the curtains to be drawn to protect privacy. The beautiful wall of windows and balcony were unused. The water levels in the river dropped to a low point that prohibited the ships from navigating the river the last 2 days. We were still able to do the tours but required long uncomfortable bus rides. That said, it was beyond AMAs control and would not discourage us from sailing with them in the future. We are grateful for the lifetime of memories this trip provided.
We had a near perfect time till the very end. From the time we placed our luggage outside our room to the time we walked up the ramp to the mainland to identify that luggage my main piece with all my clothes went missing, with absolutely no sign I spoke with the cruise director, went back onboard and searched again but still no sign. 2 weeks later still no word and still no luggage…. All in all everything was great, some of the tour guides were much too wordy not giving enough time for photos or stopping in shops. Food was good of course some meals better than others. Staff and ship crew were extremely friendly always keeping us involved. Rooms were a bit small with closets and bathroom even smaller but you are not in your room that long at a time. Because of the lost luggage Ama Wayerways would not be our 1st choice in the future.
After considering several river cruiselines, decided on AmaWaterways. It was a great choice, and the only one that offered twin balconies -- both a french balcony and a real balcony. My husband & I really liked the twin balconies! The complimentary Chef's Table was great, and we celebrated here for the actual date of our 50th wedding anniversary. The crew and excursions were wonderful. The AmaSonata is a well-maintained, clean ship, albeit small cabins, which I suppose are like all the other river cruiselines, what with the required narrowness of the ships for the Danube River. The captain is very friendly, frequently mingling with the guests. He even honored my husband and I with a Captain's Table dinner for our 50th wedding anniversary. The next time we take a river cruise, it will again be with Amawaterways. My only suggestions would be to include an early dinner option in the evening, as well as, some lively entertainment and/or dancing.
I appreciated that Ama thought of all the little details. As we were leaving our post-cruise hotel, I was very impressed that Ama provided an escort that stayed with us at flight check-in and walked us to the security gate at the under-construction Prague airport. Navigating getting from the bus to the gate on our own would have been stressful without him. All of the tour guides were knowledgeable and entertaining. The quietbox audio system was so nice to have, I can't imagine taking a tour without it. The food is excellent and the portions are just right. Staff are so accommodating and pleasant - and they really get to know you and your preferences. Waitstaff remembered I liked diet coke so they asked if I would like one every time we sat down for a meal. The food choices and happy hour drink of the day were a nice way to try things I normally wouldn't order. Can't say enough good things about the cruise director. He really made the trip memorable. This was our second cruise with AmaWaterways and I wouldn't consider going with anyone else.
